Kumpiskado ang humigit-kumulang P5.4 bilyong pisong halaga ng illicit cigarettes sa tatlong warehouse sa Cavite matapos ang malawakang raid operation ng Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
Sa isang statement ngayong Lunes, inestimate ng BIR na may P5.4 bilyong piso na halaga ng tax liability ang nabilang bunga ng mga nakumpiskang sigarilyo—diumano, isa na ito sa pinakamalaking operasyon ng BIR laban sa illicit goods.
Nakumpiska ng mga tauhan ng BIR ang mga master cases ng sigarilyo, mga sako ng tobacco, at mga pekeng stamps ng BIR.
"This is one of the largest raids against illicit cigarettes in the history of the BIR, having an estimate of PHP5.4 billion in total tax liability. The BIR will continue targeting these large-scale illicit cigarette traders. We advise everyone to register their cigarette operations with the BIR and to pay proper excise taxes on those products," saad ni BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr.
"The BIR aims to protect legitimate businesses so if you register and pay your proper taxes, your businesses will be compliant. We want a level playing field so we protect registered businesses and raid illicit trade."
Ang mga salarin na nagmamay-ari ng mga warehouses sa Dasmariñas at Indang, Cavite ay haharap sa criminal at civil cases dahil sa kasong paglabag sa National Revenue Code.
